Hola! I like to arrive early if possible when traveling to another country and this was no exception. I arrived yesterday even though Dina will not show until Tuesday afternoon. Next to me was a gentleman traveling on business but just happened to play in a couple pro-ams many moons ago in the Friendly’s events held in Agawam MA. Small world.
Walked the course today and it’s in superb condition. The ninth hole is still the most challenging (if you have big brass ones) I’ve seen. Par five, 541 yards, downhill for both tee and approach shots and an island green. Amie Cochran reached it yesterday using a six iron!
Not for the timid.
Everybody plays: Five contestants were scheduled for the qualifier but no one had to put the peg in the ground. Mexico always brings out a rash of WDs but I just don’t understand why they wait so late.
You’re out a here! A few girls have been here for a couple days, getting in some extra practice, but failed to abide by the rules set down for Saturday’s practice play and were booted off the course. In an effort to keep the tee boxes ‘pristine’ as possible, no divots were allowed on the tournament tees. Use of the more forward or back tee was suggested but ignored. Amie Cochran and two Asians were asked to take a hike prior to finishing for marring the turf.
Hey gringo, pay up! One of the best perks of both events down here is the hospitality. In the past, caddies were allowed to eat with their players in a private dining area on the sponsor’s cuff but not this year. Contestants are allowed three guests but have to pony up $10 for breakfast and double that for lunch for each extra mouth at the trough.
Oh, did you need this? Luggage woes are commonplace when visiting Mexico but I haven’t heard of this one before. Usually, not being transferred to the connecting flight is the problem but Rick “The Nerd’s” itinerary included a stopover in Cancun but not a plane change. Unfortunately, when almost everyone got off so did Rick’s bag! Showed up the next day which is a feat in itself.
No time like the present: The Aeromexico flight from LA on Sunday was delayed an hour due to the aviators tardiness. They forgot to set their clocks ahead for the time change.
Would you like a pound of flesh with that? On the way to the hotel, our van full of loopers had some catching up to do and one story seemed to pique our interest. After finishing the event at Ko Olina, our narrator received a call from the agent of his Korean boss bemoaning the fact he asked to go home early one day, so he wouldn’t miss his ride, even though all she had left was a bit of putting practice. He was also upset with the payment structure that had been agreed upon and wished to reduce it by a good-sized chunk. Lets see, more hours for less pay. Will ya sign me up! Needless to say, this will be their last week together.

Hi Larry
Great photo. Have a great time. Good luck to D!
Was the requested change in payment structure for future events or the Ko Olina event? Did the caddie end up getting what was the originally agreed to amount?
Yes he did Nintai. The change was for future events which is a moot point now.
Oiginal agreement as far as I know.
OHH Great post! I’m loving your website;
