Wegmans LPGA

Finished with a good round putting us in the top twenty.

Don’t touch it! Too late. The preferred lie rule states “through the green on the hole being played” which was the part Jill McGill must have missed. On Friday, she hit her tee ball off of number ten into the eighteenth fairway and instinctively marked and cleaned it. An official was right there to asses the penalty.

There’s no cure for “Open Fever”: But I won’t be needing to search for one. Not going. A close look at the schedule, and  it looks like a part time gig the rest of the way unless lightning strikes. A couple guys even packed it in for the Nationwide Tour. Less money but a lot more work.

Reunion tour: It was the perfect time to stop by and relive old times with Dave Baker, the former club repairman for the LPGA, who resides in Niles OH, just next door to Youngstown. “Coffee Joe”, Gary “Hound Dog” Lukash and myself caught up on the latest and chowed down at a local Olive Garden. Joe delivered an early Christmas present for Dave, a fly rod from Kelly Robins’ dad. Only took him three years to pass it along! Just think of all the fish that got away.

I’m a bit surprised and disappointed that you will not be working with Ahn this week. Help me understand the logic?

  2. lifeontour Says:

There is no logic when working for a Korean. The first guy was fired after nine holes for being too inexperienced and I was just a substitute. She barely spoke two words to me and I bet, did not remember my name. Had to deal with her agent to be paid. Instead of writing a check, it has to be sent by mail which is a pain since we’re always moving around. The word getting around is that younger caddies are preferred. One guy was told to his face “You’re too old”. That could be the reason I only worked one week.

By the way, caddie number one was paid more than me (salary wise) even though I worked the rest of the week. Go figure.

    So, Larry….a question.

Would you work for her again if asked?

  4. lifeontour Says:

Sure LoJo. I know what to expect and as I’ve written before, when working for a Korean, always expect that the current week is your last. I had that feeling early on.

Sorry to hear that Ahn was not friendly. I thought her boyfriend caddied for her.. perhaps that didn’t work out either. Maybe with more experience these young golfers will recognize the value of a good caddie rather than a stud caddie.

  6. lifeontour Says:

Don’t know if it was a matter of not being friendly ahnfan. Many are still not comfortable speaking English. That was evident during the pro-am. What I don’t understand, is the firing of the first guy. I didn’t do much more than he would have done.

    Hi Larry,

Don’t feel too bad about the situation. You’ve been part of this traveling circus for many years now and have seen loopers come and go all the time. If it’s any consolation, Shi-Hyun left for LPGA without even telling her then swing coach (a Korean) that she was going to the States and leaving him. He worked with her since she was just 11. Imagine how he felt after only learning about it from a reporter requesting an interview regarding her departure for LPGA?

Nothing surprises me anymore JW but respect for each other has taken a turn for the worse. Too many loopers are being thrown out like yesterday’s trash.
