Jamie Farr Classic-Round One

Worked for Stacy P. once more. Hubby will be on the sack tomorrow.

If not for a couple errant tee balls, we would have been in the red. Shot even.

Your cheatin’ heart … We were paired with K. B. and even though she had Kevin, a looper from the Champions Tour on the bag, dad followed us around so the chance of some news worthy material was more than likely. But to my surprise, even though she started with a bogey, he was cheering on her every move like a supportive parent should. For twelve holes running, his actions were no less than stellar. It was as if he was in the running for father of the year but the “cheatin’ bastard” deep within his soul eventually emerged.

We started on the back and, after making the turn, the action started to unfold on the third hole. K. B. hit the tree directly off the tee and never made it over the creek. She pitched down the fairway, hit the green with her next shot and made the putt for a par four. There was no ambiguity as to her score and dad was close by watching every shot. This is significant.

Stacy had the tee on the next hole and hit three wood. K. B. was given the driver by her caddie and she put the peg in the ground. She then decided to switch to a three wood also and after hitting the fairway, turned and gave her dad, who was behind us, a nod. Stacy and I looked at each other and said “What the hell was that?” We new her dad told her to switch clubs some how.

As we walked off the tee, we brought up her father’s actions and she denied anything happened but her caddie confirmed daddy was displaying three fingers as we approached the tee. He thought dad was asking what they made on the previous hole (no way he forgot that great par) so he flashed four fingers back at him. Kevin now realized daddy was signaling for a three wood. The question was, did K. B. see it? That nod of approval cannot be taken any other way in my estimation. It was as if to say “Father, you were right.”

We had a powwow with Rules official Dough Brecht afterward and all sides of the story were told. K. B. flat out denied she turned and nodded to her father but that was the only way we could have known something was going on. If she would have walked to her bag, nothing would have seemed out of place.

Doug decide to meet with all the officials before making a decision and unless the scoreboard has not been updated, it looks as if they got away with it. I would assume not enough definitive evidence was presented.

After causing a scene by dropping the bag  last week and what happened today, it is clear something has to be done about this guy.

Where will I be? Next week is the big one. The US Women’s Open at Saucon Valley. As of now, I won’t be going. Don’t have a job and since the USGA is in charge, no access. It’s run like a maximum security prison. If I could get a ticket, I might go for the experience. If I could get a looper’s badge, I’d be in “caddie hog heaven”.

A.J. Eathorne won’t be heading there either but didn’t even bother to try to qualify. She will be on the other side of the bag at the Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic on the Nationwide Tour. A.J. will be looping for Hockey Hall of Fame member Grant Fuhr and get this. He will be reciprocating at our own CN Canadian Women’s Open. A.J. has received an exemption and Grant will be toting the sack. Check out A.J.’s blog for what she’s up to.

“Hey man, that’s groovy”. I know, that is so passé but it does fit into the story. Anyone who follows golf knows -the USGA and R&A announced the new rule last August, along with agreements from all the major professional tours, that they would adopt the smaller grooves beginning 2010- but it looks like that may not be written in stone. According to this article, the PGA Tour just convened a meeting on whether to delay the switch for one year. Wonder what the LPGA will do? Maybe they should check for those “hot drivers” instead?

Looking for … a roommate for Evian. Have a room at the Hotel de France or I could cancel and stay with someone else who is in the same situation. A bag would help also.

Nothing will be done about the offending cheater. Don’t you get it Larry? The LPGA and Bivens are beholden to their Korean masters….

A time will come when players will receive a 2 stroke penalty if they tee off without a Korean background.

  2. Scott Says:

Rule change for new grooves will come into effect as planned on 1st Jan. Decided on Tuesday.

Why doesn’t Dad just caddy for her?

    That’s permissable, no?

  5. Dickie Says:

Thanks Larry! I’m happy to hear someone called them on that violation. Golf is a game of ettiquete and integrity. Unfortunately, it also made more liars of men. You knew she was going to deny it all the way. She still has not developed her own life without parental interference. Maybe the LPGA should go over the rules with the players before each tournament and lay down the law for violations to change this trend. The only way to do this is to have someone follow each group and watch everything. Violations need to be called and corrected. Now, we need a referee for each group. What’s next,”Instant Replay”.

      Dickie,

There was a meeting on the subject of cheating during Votaw’s reign of “less is more”.

I think the only way to get it through the heads of the Koreans that flouting the rules will not be tolerated, is stiff fines and suspending players for a full season. If that doesn’t work then lifetime bans should be considered.

    Hey Larry,
Your LPGA credentials are no good for USGA events? So if a player is banking on picking up a tour caddie in the parking lot, she will be out of luck? What do you need to do to get a Caddie badge this week? I am just curious how the caddie thing works for a USGA event? My guess is a lot of Dads, brothers and boyfriends carry bags this week for the newbies.

Thanks for the insight and keep those Monday Q day scores coming:) Good luck trying to stay busy in the next 6-7 weeks. Def slim pickens when it comes to typical LPGA tournys the next 2 months.

LPGA credentials mean squat to the USGA. It may get you in the first day but that’s it. I believe the player registers your name with the USGA and then you sign in at the caddie area to receive your badge.
This week, as at all LPGA events, you just say you’re a caddie and apply for a tournament badge if you don’t have an LPGA credential.

  7. Dickie Says:

Sorry to say but I think you’re correct. Maybe the head of the LPGA needs a suspension or lifetime ban for letting this get to the point we’re at now.

  8. Lonnie Says:

A female cheating Korean golfers duty to obey her father far far outweighs her duty to the rules of GOLF.

The LPGA officials should know this factoid and thus K.B.’s denial has no weight…none…nada

A Korean female is taught this from birth…this culture is older and stronger than a small book of golf rules. Normal protocols will not apply.

  9. RCH Says:

There is no honour among thieves….

  10. Dickie Says:

Lonnie is right! This is ingrain in the culture. But, if they get caught, they need to be called on it and suffer the consequences of their actions. Koreans are very aggressive in business and work hard, and there is no way they want to pay fines or have any interference in their investments (their daughter). Suspensions would put them in a tail spin. They will not take it well, but they need to follow that small book of golf rules and normal protocols if they want to be a part of the LPGA.
