Aloha! That’s the description given by Seinfeld’s neighborly postman of this week’s local at it couldn’t be more spot on. Even though the possibility of rain is in the forecast all week, there is no better place to start the season than Hawaii.

A few players and caddies were on our Sunday flight from Phoenix but not as many as expected. An earlier arrival was probably the reason.

Grace Park and rookie Louise Friberg were the first to get lei’d.

Good start. My vigilance in obtaining the best possible rental car deal payed-off. According to the Thrifty agent, I lassoed a Dodge Avenger for less than the employee discount and our digs for the week included Wi-Fi but just an ordidariy view.

Is this the best they could do?

Down to business: Walked the course prior to the qualifiers teeing it up and there was only one change. The par three fourth was moved up 20-25 yards and overall, the course is in the best condition we’ve ever seen.

We then played a mid-day nine holes and the team of Dina and Beth Bader finagled a sawbuck from Michelle McGann and Dina’s sister Danielle with a late charge. The wind was much stronger in the afternoon (always the case here) and was even affecting putts with it’s ferocity.
