Another Miss

April 28, 2012

Plenty of players but no takers. I policed the area to kill time. Many loopers, looking for something to do for the next month, want to come here but today is a perfect example of what can happen.

Worked a threesome Thursday. One was an eighty-two year lady who’s son was helping her walk. Drained the most putts in the group.

Thumbs up For the third year in a row, I had the $85 annual fee for my AAdavantage credit card waived. This time I just asked. Was first told they wouldn’t do it then was transferred to an account retention specialist on my insistence. She didn’t even balk. All that is necessary is to use it five times within the next three months. Piece of cake.

The conditioned air in my room is getting temperamental. Think it’s the thermostat. They wanted to move me but I refused. Would have been a step down and way too far to carry all my stuff. I’ll wait til after the weekend crowd moves out so something closer opens up. Wait a minute. Working perfectly right now.

Looping The Zurich

April 26, 2012

The Admiral and I caddied for some Beau regulars down in new Orleans yesterday. It was the pro-am at the PGA event at TPC Louisiana and run first class all the way. Every other tee had a food tent with fare prepared by local restaurateurs. Doing without sustenance since early morning, I started with half a dozen roasted oysters on the tenth tee (our first hole) and went on from there. Added some shrimp n’ grits, barbequed pulled pork and a bite of steak along the way. Passed on the pasta primavera. Still remember that Seinfeld episode. 🙂

We did have one snafu and it was regarding the parking. We didn’t have a parking pass and figured the public lot was our only option. Problem was, the signs were so vague, we were miles down the road before turning around. By the time we found it, a guard said it was moved to Sponsor Parking just outside the main entrance. D’oh! We made our tee time with only a couple minutes to spare.

Ran into former LPGA looper Mark "Greenvan" at the party tent afterward and popped a couple beers with him and his buddy "Alaskan Dave".

We were paired with PGA pro David Duval and the LPGA came up in a conversation during a short wait. David recalled tuning-in to the Match Play one day and a friend bet him he couldn’t name ten players on the LPGA Tour. "Sure I can," he replied, "Wie, Petterson, Gulbis, Kim, Kim, Kim, Kim, Kim and Kim."

"Bambi", a looper who got his start o the LPGA Tour, is working for David.

Paradise Lost

Plenty of looper changes in Hawaii. One blockbuster but that’s all I’m going to say about that. All the openings filled themselves as caddies played musical chairs with their players. More Nationwide and Champion Tour guys came out of the woodwork.

Se Ri Pak won’t be teeing it up this week. Saw her coming out of the fitness trailer with her left arm in a sling. Heard she dislocated her shoulder.

Went way down the alternate list. Number thirteen is now first. Think a few who were eligible are at the Symetra event in Mexico.

Caddies who do not have access to player hospitality can dine in the volunteer headquarters which is catered by a different vendor each day. But yesterday the coffee and tea was being filled automatically via a garden hose which gave it a nasty plastic taste. You couldn’t it past your nose the smell was so acrid. Finally got it fixed this afternoon.

Good article on the construction of Fallen Oak. Check out these pictures from the company who moved the giant oak trees.

Fix it or Nix It

April 23, 2012

Hey, not exactly pertinent (no going back) but it rhymes. Talked to Heather Daly-Donofrio, Senior Vice President Tour Operations. They want feedback on how to improve The actual users of the site are the best testers. Use as many links as you can to find any flaws. If they don’t know what’s broke they can’t fix it.

From Heather: Here is the email address if you run across any glitches with the new website If you find an issue, it would be great if you could include a link to the specific page as well.

Tennis star Andy Roddick brought in a group of twelve to Fallen Oak on Sunday. His foursome walked while the caddies drove the buggies. I had the last group. Not what I expected. It was a on-again-off-again-on-again scheduling. Went in at seven but didn’t work til two. Serenity now. Serenity now.

Hit or Miss

April 21, 2012

Today was a miss. Even though the tee sheet was full and the rain fell mostly on the plain (gulf), not a looper left the barn. That’s the way it is here. May be starting to slow down.

Plate Healthier lunches are being served to the employees lately. Everything turkey seems to be a reoccurring theme. Think they’re trying to tell us something. Not complaining a bit. A free lunch comes with the job. Now, if I can just find a 5¢ beer.

VLC media player rocks for playing downloaded videos and even web streaming. Many customized controls and plays every format. The more I dig into it, the more I like it. I’m shelving iTunes.

I’m also playing with CCleaner for removing unwanted files. Be careful though, you have to know what you’re doing. If you do clean the registry, make sure you use the backup tool just in case. Read the instructions.

Someone is looking for Terry Engleman (aka Whole Wheat). I know he was at an LPGA event out west but didn’t talk to him. If anyone has his contact info of knows where he is, drop me note. Please use the Contact link not the comment section.

The Three G’s

April 20, 2012

That’ll be golf, gambling and guzzling but not necessarily in that order. The Mississippi Gulf Coast seems to be a good place for all three.

A group of ten from Pennsylvania made Fallen Oak the last stop on their area course tour before heading home. The Admiral and I took the first fivesome with Tex and Dale trailing with the second. The golf wasn’t pretty but everyone had a good time. The highlight was a video of one of the guys in our group. He was behind the course namesake (fallen oak), which sits to the right of the eighteenth fairway, with his tee ball and wanted his second shot recorded for posterity. Well, it hit the tree two or three times and came right back at him. Truly a shot to remember and show the kids.

T-storms on the way. May be sitting out tomorrow.

Not Today

April 19, 2012

Plenty of players on the tee sheet but no one got out. The next three days look good but rain expected on Saturday.

Looks like my Chrome browser was the problem not the LPGA home page. A reinstall stopped it from crashing. Still don’t like the blue on blue format. Needs more contrast. Also, I’m hearing complaints that too many clicks are necessary to get to the pertinent information for the current event. Either that or they’re too hard to find.
