ShopRite Classic – Round One

My player is Wendy Doolan

Three over today. Low tomorrow.

DFL off the tenth tee, a fifteen minute delay due to slow play and a five and a half hour round makes for a long day.

A strong wind off the ocean coupled with high tide pushed the water out of the hazard on the right side of the eighth fairway. At one point it was twenty yards or more.

White House Sub Shop is famous for their monstrous creations but yesterday they must have outdid themselves. Some of the boys paid a visit and were not disappointed. Even "Scraper" had some leftover for the next day which is unheard of.

The "insider" text of the day: ‘Heard you retired. Can we talk?" Please don’t ask me to explain.

Then there was this:

Did cell phone pix play role in Phil Mickelson ‘s withdrawal?

the white house is very good.

Your first line is interesting. The LPGA pops Pressel with a penalty, costing her a spot in the final match, when there was only 2 twosomes on the course. Yet they allow a full field to tiptoe through the tuplips, making for 5-6 hour rounds. The ‘time-police’ need to enforce the rule consistently or just do away with it.

Inconsistent is the name of the game when it comes to the LPGA’s enforcement of cheating. What do you expect when the LPGA doesn’t penalize a foreign player for repeatedly touching her putting line? It’s all about keeping the LPGA’s new Masters, I mean foreign Sponsors happy now.

      • J Wake says:

Better get over it, Barbara, the ‘A’ in LPGA doesn’t stand for ‘America’.

      • Frank Michaels says:

Interesting. I don’t know about the inner workings of the LPGA, but if they allow 5 hour rounds AFTER citing Pressel less that two weeks earlier, something is amiss.

      • bocajr says:

because of the wind(20 to 30 mph) and the penal pampas grass, the field backs up and play is slow…10 players broke 70 on a 6100 yd course. All the groups were packed on the course, no gaps..players are not timed unless they are a full hole or more behind the group in front of them…therefore no timings for slow play. Throw in stupid pin placements for the wind conditions and you have slow rounds. The LPGA is not the only tour with slow play,, the PGA tour is just about as slow…its not a singular tour problem but a general golf problem.

      • Barbara says:

Slow play is more than just being outta position. It’s also about not taking forever to have someone help you line up for a drive, approach shot, or putt. If it’s not, then it should be. At an hour or 2 at most for each round’s TV coverage, the LPGA cant afford to have 6+ hr rounds.

The girls in my ladies group don’t need to ask each other to help line up our shots. We may not be pros, but at least we know how to line up towards the pin LOL.

      • barbwa wawa,,, there are no 6 hr rounds and have you checked out how long the pga players take? The U S Open has the slowest rounds and that is run by the USGA..that shoots your theory down about it being the lpga fault. The U S Open has the weakest field of any event….30 amateurs slow that event down. Most of the courses the lpga play are terrible for spectators to walk let alone players to play fast..4 hr rounds will never happen,,,if you site lining up players etc as a reason, the pga tour allows that as well…its an epedemic in golf/

      • Ozz says:

Laura Davies must be pulling her hair out with the slow play. How much longer will she continue to play, whilst the slow speed of play occurs week in week out.

Mickelson’s withdrawal…they say hitting a baseball consistently is one of the hardest things to do in professional sports. Those guys do it with 70,000 screaming fans. Why are pro golfers so anal about sound…?? Granted this observation is coming from a 11 handicap~~!!

    • Ozz says:

If the noise was there for the whole time, golfers would not worry. But when it’s not consistent, thats what makes it a bit difficult. Also, they want to hear the sound of contact between golf ball and club face which gives them feedback on how solid the ball was hit, along with the feel feedback.

No difference in tennis, when the player hits the ball, the player at the other end can tell if it was hit in the sweet spot, head or bottom of the racquet. That’s why the screams and grunting mainly in womens tennis is against the way the game should be played.

Australian Norman (the Von) Von Nida was legally blind in his 80’s & 90’s before he died. He could tell where on the club face the ball was hit. Near the end of Nick Faldo’s playing career, Faldo had a lesson from Von Nida, and Von Nida told him he was gripping the club too tight and to loosen his grip. It did the trick for Faldo. All from listening to the contact.

I was watching the AC Tourney on the Golf Channel but had to turn it Off Jane Crafter is Patheic, Terrible so Condensending ..She makes Mary Byrn look like Curt Godey….The LPGA does most everthing soooo low budget..Let Kay do it ot hire someone professional Judy is great…Its just that Jane Stinks!!!! Wanna know how I really feel..
    Good luck next week Larry

    Tom

    • bocajr says:

tom, its Mary Bryan and Curt Gowdy…at least get close. Second of all, Judy doesn’t work for the golf channel fulltime, the reason the LPGA is low budget is they have no money..you of all people should know that..get spelchek..please

  5. Tommy G says:

Thanks Jay Dont care a out spell chcek

  6. J Wake says:

Crafty is one of the better commentators out there. At least she doesn’t waffle on, knows what she is talking about and doesn’t repeatedly tell us how is was in her day.

    • Ozz says:

Have to agree with J Wake about Crafty. I only here her commentate when tournaments are on in Ozz. Just like Ian Baker-Finch, calls it as it is without the dressing. Some people don’t like to here it that way.

      • J Wake says:

Ozz, had to laugh about Cafty being condescending. She’s an Aussie for heaven’s sake, it’s never gonna happen!

      • LPGA golf is boring to watch even if they had a dancer on the tube describing it….Kay was too apologetic( that was a great sand wedge to 20 feet..pleazzzz)….and the rest except for Judy should be thrown to the curb for the most part…what they need is a caddie in the booth to say whats gonna happen..lol….the late shad rapper would have been the best ever( shesh, this ones got splush written allover it)..and really describe the putride golf that is playes on average.

      • Barbara says:

LPGA golf should have the caddies hit every other shot for the players to make things interesting. They couldn’t do much worse lol!
