My Pick$

July 16, 2013

We have a small office pool here regarding that little get-together being held at Muirfield this week. The game is to pick five players and total their winnings. Highest gross wins. I really don’t follow the PGA Tour much so I went with the obvious. My fabulous five are Woods, Mickelson, Kuchar, Rose and McDowell.

This is for all you LPGA old-timers out there. You may get the bookends but who’s that in the middle?

What’s Going On At The Manulife?

July 12, 2013

Fifteen under in the lead; a three under cut; a rookie ten under after two rounds; human sacrifice; dogs and cats living together! Those last two are from Ghostbusters but the others beg for an explanation.

How easy did they set up that track anyway? The four round record must be in reach.

More Rest For The Wicked

July 10, 2013

Fallen Oak is closed this week for aeration. The thought of putting in a few hours just to pad the paycheck never crossed my mind. I’ll be back to work on Monday.

The afternoon wave of the Manulife pro-am was canceled due to weather.

Signed-up for Amazon Prime. Already saved $20 on a purchase with 2 day shipping thrown in. The membership fee should easily pay for itself.

I’ve discovered Shock Top beer at the local Wally-Mart. The Lemon Shandy is especially tasty.

Manulife With A Twist

July 9, 2013

For the first two rounds of the Manulife Financial Classic, play will begin on holes 1 and 11 to consolidate shuttle rides and alleviate golf cart traffic.

Also, in an effort to reduce waste, players and caddies will be given refillable water bottles in lieu of the ubiquitous disposable fare.

It’s Tournament Time

July 2, 2013

The Southeastern Junior Golf Tour began a two day event here at Fallen Oak today. The highlight was an ace by a thirteen-year-old.

A reader asks:

I’m planning a golf vacation to Australia and possibly Tasmania and New Zealand in either 2014 or 2015.  I’m not sure if you’ve been there, but I do know that some of the others on your blog either are from there or have spent time there.

Would you and/or they have any suggestions for time of year to go, where to play, what to see, etc?  Don’t really need to do the standard “tourist” fare, but would like to experience the area and culture.  Royal Melbourne, New South Wales, Barnbougle Dunes and Lost Farm golf clubs are on the golf list so far, but I’m certainly open to others.

Thanks much,jimk

Any suggestions out there?
