Coates Golf Championship presented by R+L Carriers to Kick Off 2015 LPGA Tour Schedule

The news – like a two day old donut – seems a tad stale. 😉

Mozo closes it out early. Congrats to team España.

Beth Ann Nichols@GolfweekNichols

Belen Mozo birdies the 16th hole to clinch the CROWN for Team Spain. Lot of drama on that hole this weekend.

Despite USA failing to make Sunday, I’d consider this first-year event a great success. Can only imagine the hysteria when it goes to Asia.

“I have a hard time saying I’m going to critique the format so a country or two can make it to Sunday.” – Mike Whan

For those questioning whether or not there needs to be a format change I give you the 1st tee. 2 groups already off

Crown 1st tee on Sunday

Do the no-shows tell the story?

The Biloxi Bay Bridge spans, well, the Biloxi Bay, from Ocean Springs to Biloxi and is about 2.8 miles one way. I do the bridge walk now and then and yesterday morning was one of those times.

It wasn’t anything special except that on the way back one of the walkers took me by surprise.

It was a fireman dressed in full fire-fighting regalia including oxygen mask and tank. Even though it was fairly early, the 86° temperature was punctuated by the oppressive Mississippi humidity so I figured it had to be a probie fulfilling part of a hazing ritual. Why else?

He gave me a wave accompanied by a muffled greeting and went on his way.

USA? Not on Sunday

This isn’t exactly what they were looking for.

U.S. knocked out; does International Crown need tweaks?

Humbled US women seek answers after Crown ousterYou need to find the chemistry and spark between your pairings to kind of egg each other on,” Kerr said.

“What are you trying to say there?” Creamer responded.

Phone died while I was out on the golf course. What a rally kill for this event. Have to wonder what crowd support will be like with no U.S.

Crown – Day Two

July 25, 2014

USA comes roaring back with two wins.

Who would have thought Japan would be leading after today?

Beth Ann Nichols@GolfweekNichols Trooper! RT @noraventu: @GolfweekNichols Cannot understand how Mikaela Parmlid is playing this course pregnant”

Yani Tseng wasn’t smiling as big today on first tee. Hit an iron left into the trees.

Then there was this:

Ko could take a break from LPGA Tour“If you look at a lot of those young Korean players they peak very early in their careers and it’s probably overplay and not enough rest or off time.”

Someday Ko must control her money

Crown – Day One

July 24, 2014

What? Creamer and Kerr gets smoked by Kung and Lu? Only one birdie (Kerr) on the back nine. Creamer made one birdie all day. That’ll put you in the loss column all day long.

Team USA embarrassingly pointless after opening matches. Need to regroup.

Beth Ann Nichols@GolfweekNichols The amateur, Minjee Lee, carried her mentor, Karrie Webb, to a 1-up victory over IK Kim and Na Yeon Choi.

I don’t think Yani Tseng stopped smiling on the first tee. She’s loving this. Ripped a driver. Only Yani and Lexi hit driver down the 1st.

All that smiling paying off for Yani, who birdied the 1st. Taiwan takes a 1-up lead on the U.S. “I can be aggressive all week,” Tseng said.

Yani Tseng drills a HUGE birdie putt for Taiwan on the 18th. The Americans are POINTLESS after Day 1 @LPGAIntlCrown.

Ron Sirak@ronsirak Most twitter-friendly @LPGAIntlCrown team is Taiwan with 14 total last-name characters. Least twitter-friendly is Thailand with 41.

It was interesting for awhile at The Open Championship but the guys who lit it up were just too far back. Congrats to Rory.

The same goes for Lydia Ko. This girl is for real.

Alistair Tait@GolfweekTait I know @PaulLawriegolf won the 1999 Open from 10 shots back with a fantastic closing 67, but I can’t see Rory losing this one.

Watched Annika chunk one out of a fairway bunker at the American Century Championship. Bet ya didn’t see that very often when she was on tour. Still made par.
