Corning Find

May 27, 2015

I was gong through some mementos and found this newspaper. That’s me on the front page of the Corning Leader May 25th, 1994. According to the caption, I was looping for Maggie Will. Would have smiled if I knew the camera was on me.

In the reflection on my glasses you can see Louis Macintosh cleaning grips.

It’s Just A Donut …

May 26, 2015

… or is it? The Tato-Nut Donut Shop in Ocean Springs recently reopened after a fairly long hiatus due to the owner’s back injury. You would think a drastic loss of business might be expected but as the photos below indicate, their customer’s loyalty is second to none.

My daily morning walk down Government Street passes the Tato-Nut and it’s always the same. The line is well out the door. This morning I counted 60+ salivating Mississippians waiting patiently for a chance at the deep-fried delights.

As I approached the end of the line, I asked if they’re really that good and in the unison worthy of a well trained pod of Sea World dolphin, they smiled, nodded and responded with hearty affirmation.

End of the line? No way!

Watched the 1957 movie “Zero Hour” on TCM the other day. It’s a drama about food poising disabling the crew of an airliner leaving only one passenger available to land the plane. Sound familiar? The comedy “Airplane” was a remake.

Check out this YouTube clip to view some of the similarities. There are many more but you’ll get the gist. If you get a chance watch Zero Hour.

Does She Deserve The Death Penalty?

May 15, 2015

In collegiate sports, the NCAA has the power to ban a school from competing in for at least one year for severe rules violations. The LPGA also has that power which may be wielded shortly.

In the final round of the North Texas Shootout, Na Yeon Choi wasn’t having a whole lot of fun so she decided to shake things up. For the last five holes, she figured a more favorable face was required on her bag and enlisted her friend, and fellow LPGA member, Jennifer Song. The problem is, under LPGA rules, she is forbidden to caddie for another player and is a major infraction of the LPGA guidelines.

From what I hear, many players are up in arms and demanding suspension for the remainder of the year.

As of now, the top dog has not made a decision as indicated by Jennifer’s participation in this week’s event at Kingsmill.

Tara Fleming (one of my old bosses) and Alicia Kapheim qualified for the match play round of the U.S. Women’s Four-Ball at Bandon Dunes. Scoring here.

Unfortunately the team of Angel Yin / Muni He put a hurtin’ on ‘em. Won 4 and 3.

Every once in a while you need a good kick in the pants to get your motivational juices flowing and it looks like Rickie Fowler got his boot with being picked as one of the most overrated players by his competitors. What a fantastic final round and playoff!
