CDPHP Open-Round 2

July 28, 2019

My player is Savannah Vilaubi.

Even par for the day puts us down the road.

Savannah was an absolute treat to work for. Has plenty of game and I hope it all falls in place one day. She would be a valuable asset on the LPGA Tour.

Played ball in hand the last two days. The fairways have too many bad spots to be marked ground under. Definitely a factor in the scoring.

Most prayers go unanswered(depending on how you look at it), as did mine yesterday. “Talkin’ John” turned into “Talkin’, Walkin’ John” as he was on Nicole’s bag for the second round. But it wasn’t as bad for us as I thought it would be. I don’t know about Nicole.

On one shuttle ride though, they were together on the back of the cart, he on the left and she on the right. His left arm was holding the armrest and his right was straddled across her chest hold the right armrest. Definitely no need for that. Looked a little fishy to me and I pointed it out to Alvin.

We have a week off so I’m off to parts unknown tomorrow.

CDPHP Open-Round 1

July 26, 2019

My player is Savannah Vilaubi.

+1 on the card. Need to go low tomorrow.

“Talkin’ John” was our scorekeeper. He just wouldn’t give the players any space. He shadowed us everywhere and could not hold his tongue.

On our final hole, just when we thought it would be the last we see of him, he volunteers to work for Nicole Aitrique tomorrow. She was the only player in our group without a looper.

Please Lord, give her the wisdom not to call him. Amen.

We were paired with Erynne Lee with Alvin Okada on the bag. Nice to have some help out there.

The wind direction was listed as LV. It means light and variable which many folks are unaware.

Reminds of the time at Bulle Rock when it was also LV. My player couldn’t comprehend the fact that the wind would be so unpredictable so she demanded that I pick a direction. That lasted about three holes. Smile

I tuned in to the ROC City Rumble Long Drive Contest on the Golf Channel the other day and caught the end of the ladies competition. ‘Upstate Jay’s’ player, Alexis Belton, lost by a couple feet to Phillis Meti. Well over three hundred yards.

CDPHP Open-Thursday

July 25, 2019

My Player is Savannah Vilaudi.

‘Nerd” set me up with Savannah. I owe him alcohol.

Played nine yesterday and just practiced today.

Heard the new sponsor has an issue with the manager of the restaurant in the clubhouse. May move the event to the course next door.

Always the TV hog, Jeff DeCoen explains the intricacies of the caddie business. Smile

Danielle Downey Classic-Round 2

July 20, 2019

My player is Hyemin Kim.

We needed to ace our final hole to make the cut. I’ll be watching The Open instead.

Hyemin has a different looper next week but I’ll be on the bag the two after that. It will be parking lot duty for me.

We were having a conversation on the putting green the other day and ‘The Nerd’ asked, “What was that movie where the guy kept getting younger?” His Player, Alice Chen, answered, “Benjamin Button”. When Hyemin heard the response, she queried, “Benjamin Butthole?” I don’t know what to make of that.

Then there was this:

Danielle Downey Classic-Round 1

July 18, 2019

My player is Hyemin Kim.

Played steady. –1 on the card.

It seems that some players only want a pack-mule and not a caddie. One of my compadres worked twice this year for a certain player on two of the hilliest courses. They finished T5 and T4 making almost $20K. But when he needed a loop for this week, she decided to tote the bag herself. Shameful.

After my win, I have heard from that player only once. She wanted me to find her a looper for Decatur. Sad smile

How about some of those teams at the Dow Great Lakes Invitational? YIKES! A new event prior to a major gets hammered every time. Well, any event does but to do it to a new sponsor? More shame.

I received an email from a reader who bemoans the lack of play from Hanna Green after her win at the KPMG. He wonders if her mentor has advised skipping the little fish in lieu of catching another big one.

We snagged an excellent pairing the first two rounds. Jillian Hollis and Nuria Iturrioz who are number two and six respectively in the race for the card. We managed to edge them both by two shots.

”Upstate Jay” is in the house looping for Alexis Belton.

Food vouchers are provided for the volunteer caddies only but for some of us, it’s just a minor inconvenience. If you know what I mean.

Danielle Downey Classic-Tuesday

July 16, 2019

My Player is Hyemin Kim.

Put the peg in the ground early the last two days and had plenty of time for chipping and putting.

Today was the nine-hole Celebrity Golf Scramble. Decent crowd but I think an unexpected storm may have put the kibosh on the festivities. Don’t know if they finished. I was having my oil changed.

celebrity scramble

B-Funk is looping for Susie Whaley’s daughter, Kelly. They were also in the Celebrity Scramble.

Both courses (last week and this week) were designed by Donald Ross. There is a large statue of “The Donald” behind the ninth green which reminded me of a conversation I had with “Speedway” and “The Nerd” Last week.

Speedway was puzzled by the fact that many players were unfamiliar with Donald Ross which had me opine. “Donald Ross? They don’t even know Diana Ross”.

Then there was this:

Donald Ross Classic-Round 3

July 14, 2019

My player is Hyemin Kim.

Another +1 has us T23.

We were paired with “The Nerd” and he rivaled Marcus in his proficiency. Just kidding Rick.Smile It was good to have plenty of help for once.

The Donald Ross Course was built over 100 years ago and the amount of slope on the greens is considerable. So much so, the pin barely changed position on seven of the greens.

It’s on to Rochester for the Daniel Downey Classic. I be with Hyemin once more.

Donald Ross Classic-Round 2

July 12, 2019

My player is Hyemin Kim.

Didn’t get it done. Shot +1.

Marcus, the other caddie in our group, is employed in the area caddie program and wore golf shoes yesterday. He had the tennies on today. Poor soul. He’s been lost for two days. Always in someone’s way.

Yesterday, we teed off two minutes early because the starter was using his watch and not the official clock that was directly behind him. Hyemin noticed the error and called in the official. The last player in our group had to wait an extra minute to let it fly.

Think I forgot my deodorant today. Got pretty ripe by the end.Smile

Donald Ross Classic 2019–Round 1

July 11, 2019

My player is Hyemin Kim.

We were first off and the leader in the clubhouse when we finished. Shot –4.

“Speedway” is looping for Sydney Cavin and “The Nerd” is on Alice Chen’s bag.

The historic West Baden Springs Hotel has a room dedicated as the Legends Tour Hall of Fame and is full of memorabilia. Included is Dee Darden’s book “Inside The Ropes” and I just happen to be in it. Of course, I left the page open to my picture. Smile

Donald Ross Classic 2019–Tuesday

July 9, 2019

My player is Hyemin Kim.

The back nine was all that was necessary. I showed two hours before our planned meeting and we went right out. Good thing. It was a scorcher.

Played the front yesterday and let all play through to facilitate more putting and chipping opportunities.

My plan was to skip this track but to paraphrase Don Corleone, “She made me an offer I couldn’t refuse”.

Hyemin said the greens are much more consistent this time around than the last two.

Look who I spotted. Speedway is in the house.
