Danielle Downey Classic 2018 – Round 4

July 22, 2018

My player is Kristy McPherson.

Birdied the last to finish T3.

I stayed to the bitter end watching the playoff. Took four tries but Seong won it with a seven foot birdie putt.

Danielle Downey Classic 2018 – Round 3

July 21, 2018

My player is Kristy McPherson.

Saw more than our share of trees today but still got it two under. Good show!

Played in a two-ball with Nuria Iturrios with Alejandra Llaneza on the bag. Neither Kristy nor I remember ever seeing her name or face but she’s been out all year. We were quite impressed with her play.

After Alejandra ignored her pin duties on the first hole, I made her aware as we walked off the green. She got most of the pins the rest of the day. All in good fun I may add.

One reason for her taking the pins first was that she was always there ahead of me. Nuria is one of the fastest players I’ve ever come across. Not just in licking her club and executing the shot but walking. It’s as if she’s on the clock all the time but her fast pace worked perfectly. She’s T2.

Of course Ale felt obligated to keep up with her horse and by her own admission, was given a good workout.

Danielle Downey Classic 2018 – Round 2

July 20, 2018

My player is Kristy McPherson.

Birdied the last for –1.

We were the first group off in our wave both days and the threesome of Emma Jandel, Youngin Chun and Patricia Sanz Barrio was behind us. They were behind a hole and a half both days but must have been given a warning or timed today.

They finally caught us on seven (our back nine) and proceeded to hit into us! Kristy was about to tap in her par putt on the reachable par five when a ball flew into the greenside bunker.

Danielle Downey Classic 2018–Round 1

July 19, 2018

My player is Kristy McPherson.

A bogey free round left us at -3 for the day.

I usually don’t remember my dreams but yesterday I fell asleep way too early and woke at 3am with a doozy. Here goes.

I was walking along and entered an old stone building resembling a church. I proceeded to the basement where a group of musicians were playing solos. Someone famous came in and he would be next to play.

I got up, walked into another room where the NRA was having a meeting. I then left the building and started to walk.

After a short distance, I decided to go back and listen to the guy who came in and as I approached the outside door, a lady exited and had her leather coat slashed by one of the Coleman twins (Symetra players) who were riding tricycles!

I entered the building to get help and when we came out, it was raining. There was a row of laptops with their lids open sitting on a stone wall getting soaked. I searched for mine but it was stolen.

I headed for my car but when I arrived, the hood was propped open with a flashlight and the battery was gone.

Yikes! Wonder what Dr. Phil would think of that one?

Danielle Downey Classic 2018 – Wednesday Pro-Am

July 18, 2018

My player is Kristy McPherson.

It was a nine and nine format. The group played with Muni He on the front and Kristy the back. A friend of Kristy’s wished to caddie the pro-am so he rode the cart while I walked along. Nice.

Played a late nine yesterday with Kendall Dye and Dori Carter. Great fun.

Doris Chen was in front of us and we pushed her for seven holes. She continued onto the back after we called it a day. That had to one of the longest practice rounds for a single on record. Upstate was on the bag and earned every penny she’s paying him. She’s an alternate so Jay may be looking for another loop.

The day concluded with a caddie meeting at Ferrari’s Pizza Bar after the round. Jeffery Steffler hosted the get-together and even better, footed the bill. Many thanks to “The Brick”.

The Nerd, Bully, Jeff DeCoen, Jorge, Upstate Jay, Philly Phil, and I were in attendance. Much food and drink were consumed and caddie stories prevailed. It was a perfect evening.

Walked the course on Monday. The numbered paint was already down but only in the middle of the fairways, not on both sides. Quite a change from last week where there was an overabundance of info in the yardage book.

Apparently, there is no shortage of idiot caddies on this tour either. One guy was asked by the Superintendent to stay off the greens while he was spraying but instead of complying, got into his face. Could have been last week’s “pizza pilferer”. He’s here this week along with a few other LPGA loopers.

My Airbnb is four miles from the course. Very charming. First time I’ve slept on a memory foam mattress. Fantastic! One caveat though. I almost got locked in the bathroom. The door is sagging putting pressure on the ancient deadbolt lock. Had to lift the door to get out. If this ever happens to my host, she’s toast. Can you say mummified?

How sad is this? There are only two full field, domestic, LPGA events remaining this year. Indy and Portland. It’s only the middle of effing July!
