Danielle Downey Classic 2016 – Round 3

July 16, 2016

My player is Madeleine Sheils.

Retreated into a tie for 40th with a three over round. Nothing to lose tomorrow. The goal is to finish the event in the red.

Shot +3. Could have been the toughest wind I have ever caddie in and that’s saying a lot. Gusting and constantly switching direction.

Reeled off four consecutive birds and followed them with an eagle. Had it to –6 but the golf gods took a few back. Finished –3.

Free eats is your friend. My buddy Gary Snyder hooked me up with a volunteer meal via a voucher the other day and he gave me a coupon for a free sub today. He manages a sub shop for one of the local chains.

July 13, 2016

My player is Madeleine Sheils.

It was a split pro-am. The pros only had to go nine holes. We were done by early afternoon.

The Queen of Rochester, Nancy Lopez, was in the house and played in the pro-am.

Danielle Downey Classic 2016 – Tuesday

July 12, 2016

Only thirteenth holes of practice then headed to the range.

Did you hear about Lee Lopez? She had to qualify for the last two Opens, made the cut in both and had a hole in one in each event!

Yesterday we participated in a pro-am consisting of three amateurs with one being a local junior girl in each group. We had sixteen year old Mikah McDonnell who was simply fantastic.

The Rochester legacy of supporting women’s golf lives on with the Danielle Downey Classic. Is a Legends event far behind? Then again, lets make it to Corning first.

Look who I found. Former LPGA Tour caddie Gary Snyder is volunteering this week on the range. He lives in Rochester and is helping out for a few days.

… are not good for the soul.

Strolled around the Brook Lea Country Club this morning. No yardage books available but I wished to get the lay of the land and shoot a couple short numbers for “The Nerd”. He did the book and was asked to add some more marks. Why, I don’t know. After they paint the distances on the fairways, there will be plenty to choose from. I bet most players use the paint exclusively anyway.

Brook Lea was designed by Donald Ross in 1926. Small greens with plenty of slope. Typical for that era. A statue commemorates his achievement.

Me and Donny Boy were tight but he needs to loosen up a bit. Looks a tad wooden to me. 🙂

Founders Cup 2016 – Round 1

March 18, 2016

Walked all eighteen with Tom. As usual, it’s really boring from outside the ropes but it was good to get some exercise and see the course.

Ran into Wendy Ward by the practice green then Betsy King came along. Talked about the Symetra Tour, Olympics and other things with Betsy. Good to see both of them again.

Quiet Dave came up from Tucson to pay his respects. I left him a ticket at will call but after searching their computer, couldn’t find his name. They eventually gave him one anyway but wouldn’t the tickets be arranged in their envelopes alphabetically? That’s how they are in most places.

BTW, I need to correct Dave’s status. He is not retired but unemployed like the rest of us. 🙂 He’s still living the good life though.

Scraper was still on ShanShan’s bag. The word is her caddie has been hit hard with the flu and he’s not the only one. Did you know a ten ten supply of Tamiflu is over $300? (wasn’t for me)

If a caddie is unable to dine with his player inside, a lunch ticket is provided. A tournament concession stand or a couple of food trucks are the options.

Those who can’t do, teach: After a disappointing day with the flat stick, caddie Jeff Steffler spent some time on the practice green with his player and the session went something like this I assume.

No, no. This doesn’t look right.

Looked better her way. 🙂

I took the day off today. May go out tomorrow.
