Marathon Classic – Round 2

July 14, 2018

My player is Kristy McPherson.

Bad day at Black Rock. We won’t be playing the weekend.

More news on the “pizza pilferer”. Yesterday, he was still in the face of the caddie who stood up to him. This time it was by the putting green.

Also heard that he snatched a bunch of caddie lunch vouchers in Atlantic City and was handing them out to spectators. They offered a substantial discount at the concessions stands or McGettigan’s 19th Hole pub by the course.

Anyone recognize this guy? Heard he caddied on tour at one time.

“Cheeseburger Chad” started a new enterprise in his home town of Columbus OH. He has been flipping houses since January and is looking for investors.

I was invited to dinner at Kristy’s host family yesterday. Ate and drank too much as usual. Two Sol beers had my name on them. Reminded me of the happy hour at the Holiday Inn in Mexico City.

Did you know that when an LPGA pro is about to retire from the tour she gets to pick her pairing in her final event? Danah Bordner will be doing just than in Indianapolis.

This was in the caddie area. Could this be the work of Jeffrey Steffler?

Marathon Classic–Round 1

July 13, 2018

My player is Kristy McPherson.

After scrambling back from an early three over start to get back to even, we lost a couple coming in. Shot +2.

Former LPGA pro Debbie Hall was on the tenth tee (our first hole) conducting the Darrell Survey. Said she missed the Senior Open qualifier by two shots. The putter did her in.

There’s plenty more money on the LPGA Tour vs the Symetra Tour but it also comes with an equal share of drama. For example, two caddies were ready to come to blows over the caddie lunch consisting of a variety of pizza.

Apparently, one looper, who has a reputation of pilfering much more than his share from the caddie eats in the past (like taking home a full box of sealed muffins), grabbed two plates piled four pieces each and was chided by his fellow looper. It turned into a heated discussion and a stare down match with an offer to take it to the parking lot to be settled with fists.

Bully was ready to intervene, ala the rumble in Mexico City with Flipper, but held off.

By the way, did you ever have pizza with chicken, cheese and ranch dressing? A layer of ranch was under the cheese and smothered the crust. It was truly disgusting. YUK!

Marathon Classic – Tuesday

July 10, 2018

My player is Kristy McPherson.

Kristy was in the pro-am at Sylvania Country Club so I strolled around Highland Meadows getting used to the new yardage book.

There are plenty of complaints about the book, which is created by a European company No1-Golf, but two opposing camps exist regarding its efficacy.

The biggest complaint is the lack of permanent marks such as sprinkler heads. Instead, geometric shapes (circles, squares, and triangles) of different colors are painted on the fairways. Every year they will be in a different place so a new book will be required.

The second is the timing of their release for purchase. Monday morning is too late for some caddies. If they arrive a day early, the book is not available and it is not sold through the pro shop. A representative of the company sells them.

By the way, I took a gander at one of the greens books. Yikes! That’s one confusing piece of (fill in the blank). All the lines were making me dizzy. Maybe it’s an acquired taste.

Two LPGA veterans have teamed up for this week’s event. Bully and Kim Williams are giving it a go.

Cherries must be in season. Picked some up at Walmart for $1.98 a pound and they’re delicious.

Marathon Classic 2018 – Monday

July 9, 2018

My player is Kristy McPherson.

Played the morning pro-am. Everyone took a looper so it was a good practice round. My gratuity was the contestant badge from one of the guys. Got me in for lunch and a couple brewskies.

This is my first look at the yardage books by No1-Golf. Don’t like them. I prefer Kenny The Wizard’s on the Symetra Tour.

Drove up from Joe’s yesterday morning and checked in to my digs. It’s an Airbnb in Sylvania less than two miles from the course. Here it is.

Tina and Louise (the resident cats) left a welcoming gift for my enjoyment. A big ol’ nasty terd in the middle of the floor. Sweet.

There’s a Roku TV in my room and only gets internet, no normal TV. Will be movie watching this week.

I went looking for some snacks last week and found this protein bar. Who are they fooling? A glazed donut? Come on!
