Champions Sunday

April 3, 2011

I have a feeling if the PGA wasn’t the deep-pocket backstop for the Champions Tour it may revert to its original status of a couple events a year. Watched some on the tube last night. The gallery must have been dressed in camo cause all I saw were trees.

After working the course for weeks now, it was easy to read putts from the confines of our motel room. More right! More right!

Tom Lehman has the new course record at 64 but the previous title holder is Kyle, a caddie who works at the course, who carded a 66. Yeah, he’s that good or better. Shot his from the tips. So, given the yardage disparity, who really is the king of Fallen Oak?

The Oyster House near the eighteenth tee is the place to hang out but that’s not for me. Too much like swallowing my own sputum.

Heard that there was interest in hosting an LPGA event here during the SHE-WHO-MUST-BE-NAMED era. A demand for free rooms for all the players nixed the deal I was told. Just another nasty rumor or a résumé builder?

LPGA stuff:

Congrats to Stacy and Travis! I’ll give ‘em an 8.5 on the entry.

When the temperature reached 100 earlier in the week, the caddies had the choice of wearing their jumpsuits or not. Those with only their tighty-whiteys underneath lost the option.

Shut the eff up! The announcers need to stop talking over the action. Judy should know better. The other guy (Jerry?) was awful. It’s like they have a litany of facts that they must get in before the show ends.

Wie has that little Hitler salute (a pseudo acknowledgment of the gallery) down to a science. Probably does it on her sleep.

Looking back: Worked for “Big Mama” at the Dinah once. Played the last seven (the front nine) in her socks due to blisters. Shot -1 in that stretch. Awesome!

Kraft Nabisco Championship chairman is Mr. Cool behind the scenes

Double-whammy day: It was a dreadful opening round for Kristen Park this week. First, she was tagged with a penalty for slow play on eight. The coup de grâce came after she finished though. Was DQ’d for signing an incorrect scorecard I was told. Penned a par on the fifth when she actually had bogey.

Bookmark it Danno! The LPGA has created a new mobile website. You should be able to find it by going to lpga.com on your mobile phone. It will then redirect to the mobile site. On some phones, there are issues with the re-direct, so if it doesn’t work (i.e. you get the full website instead of the mobile site), try m.lpga.com, mobile.lpga.com or wap.lpga.com on any device.

Then there was this:

What were the odds on Butler making it to the finals two years in a row?
